Photography is a time-based medium, and its ability to distill action into a single frame is best summed up in the concept of the “decisive moment.” But how else can the passage of time be expressed through still photography? In this practice group circle back, eight photographers will discuss their strategies for depicting atypical time scales and concepts photographically.

Join us for a multi-layered conversation with Donna Wesley Spencer as she shares work from Recover & Release, her new book from Daylight Books. Donna spent two years visiting wildlife rescue and rehabilitation centers to photograph and learn why so many wild animals need to be rescued. Her beautiful and tender photographs highlight what's possible when we take the time to approach vulnerable subjects with patience and care.

Just Picture is a cross-art collaboration that showcases a flute against the backdrop of an original fixed-media score by Jay, an original poem by Joanna, who is also the flutist, and video-manipulated photographs by Beate. The premiere performance of Just Picture will debut at the National Flute AssociationConvention in Portland, Oregon, in August 2026. As the artists continue to develop this collaboration, they welcome insights and feedback from the Kinship community.

Join six photographers who have been keeping time with the places they love. Through embodied contemplative practices they are using photography to commune with their more-then-human kin while finding unique ways to animate these intimate connections through photographs.

The Bodies in Time practice group met over five weeks for an inquiry into embodied time. These photographers had experiences that touched on generational deep time, inhabited time, and time-out-of-time, framing each doorway of time within the context of their own lived experiences. Join us as the participants of this group share insights, inspirations, and diverse work gathered from their time together. Together we will explore how our bodies, and our photographs, can shape the ways we interact with time.

In Revisiting My Raising, Jillian Abir MacMaster shares how two separate photo series come together to explore her experience of being raised Catholic and as a Palestinian-American growing up around her grandmother. The two series are approached very differently; one through straight photography and the other through cyanotype studio photos incorporated with mixed media. Jillian Abir MacMaster is not only revisiting her raising, she is reclaiming it.

Join Erik Mace as he shares new work born from an ongoing inquiry into photography's relationship to truth — and what survives when memories fall apart. For the past six years, Erik has been introducing corruption into image files, feeding photographs back through their own data, letting digital photographs reorganize, decay, or come apart. In this new exploration of work, he has turned that process on an archive of images he could least afford to lose.
