Upheaval: A Kinship Portfolio Share with Frances Bukovsky
Upheaval: A Kinship Portfolio Review with Frances Bukovsky
Join us via Zoom on Wednesday, August 12th at 7 pm EDT
Join us for an interactive evening of portfolio sharing, feedback, and conversation with Frances Bukovsky and Liz Titone.
Frances Bukovsky will be presenting their developing project, Upheaval which unfolded over several years of photographing both northern and southern Appalachia. Here, photography becomes a process of finding home in both body and place. Frances is at a point in this project where they are seeking feedback and are curious what insights the Kinship Community may have for this project.
For this event, the Kinship community is encouraged to explore a series of questions created by Liz Titone designed to deepen our capacity for a robust engagement with a body or work.
Together we will consider how the questions we ask, both as artists and viewers, can deepen our relationship to the images we engage with, create and share.
Frances Bukovsky is a photographer and illustrator located in Marshall, North Carolina. They are interested in the ways we define, value, and relate to both human and more-than-human bodies. Frances focuses on the process of photography as a way to explore embodiment and relationship, often beginning with their own body. They draw from ecology, queer, and disability studies to weave intimate experiences together within broader contexts to highlight the interdependent relationships between all beings.

Liz Titone is a photographer and educator whose artistic practice is a continuous dialogue between observation and creation. Naturally curious and equally stubborn, she approaches her work with an insatiable thirst for answers, even when they lead to further questions. Her photography is rooted in patient inquiry and exploration, guided by the belief that observation is a superpower.
Trained in photography and book arts, Liz is drawn to paper and the tactile experience it offers, but it's the dance of light through her lens that truly captivates her. Liz’s work toggles between the mechanical precision of the camera and the hands-on engagement with materials, blending both to reflect the world around her.
