Water, Water Everywhere

Brenda Spielmann

Brenda Spielmann, a photo-based artist, is intrigued by the interplay between nature, mythology, and our relationship with water. Using multimedia and photographic interventions, she adds layers to storytelling in hopes of raising awareness of how our actions affect the entire ecosystem. Her work also investigates society’s concepts of normalcy, particularly in relation to the disabled community, exploring how barriers often arise from limited exposure and longstanding assumptions.

Spielmann founded “Lightwriters,” a photography program through which she taught photography to kids and teens with disabilities in schools and hospitals. She has worked for editorial clients in Miami, São Paulo, and Toronto, and has exhibited in group and solo shows in North Carolina, Los Angeles, Chicago, Colorado, Toronto, Berlin, and online.
