Man in Motion: The Life and Work of Phillip Leonian

Photographer Phillip Leonian is best known for depicting physical action over time, which he called “time/space imagery.” Leonian’s photographs were created long before the advent of Photoshop and digital capture. As such, every image was made on a single negative—making time visible in every frame. With contributions from friends and colleagues and essays by eminent curators in the field, Man in Motion brings much-deserved focus to Philip Leonian’s remarkable journey alongside his wife Edith, his studio partner for thirty years.

As curator Marvin Heiferman observes, "Leonian's images showed magic being made and, simultaneously, to viewers' delight, deconstructed."
