Retreats

Studio retreats and workshops are core to Kinship’s mission to inspire and support creative practice. Studio retreats are akin to self-funded artist residencies. Designed to meet you right where you are, studio retreats are as varied and unique as the people who seek them out, ranging from completely independent to fully facilitated.

Independent retreats are completely self-guided and include the use of your chosen workspace/studio. On the day you arrive, we will help you settle in, give you a tour of the facilities, answer any questions about house rules and studio/darkroom procedures, and then leave you to your work.

Facilitated retreats are perfect for individuals who may need a refresher, want to learn or refine a skill, need assistance designing or curating a project, or who enjoy guidance, structure, inspiration, or feedback while they work. The level of facilitation is up to you and can range from one hour to the entire visit. If you are interested in learning more about facilitated retreats or private workshops, please indicate that on your retreat request form.

Can anyone apply? Yes, retreat slots are non-competitive and are filled on a first-come, first-served basis. Before requesting a retreat, learn more about the house, studios, and darkrooms. Next, read What You Should Know Before Visiting, and then fill out the retreat request form. Our retreat coordinator will schedule a brief phone or Zoom call to learn more about your creative needs, answer your questions, and, most importantly, ensure that Kinship Studio is the right fit for your practice.
