Spiraling Through Time: A Year of Slow Practice with Kaye Savage

Spiraling Through Time: A Year of Slow Practice with Kaye Savage

Begins May 19th
Third Tuesday of the month, 7 - 8:30 pm EDT (for 12 sessions)

This practice group will meet monthly for the full year, providing opportunities for sustained attention to long-term projects, a fresh start each month, or a combination. The rhythm of the group will provide intentional space for expansive practice as well as project and/or portfolio development. Prompts and questions will encourage exploration of the sub-themes of the Deep Time doorway. We'll take inspiration from a variety of artists along the way. We'll also try out some collaborative practices, including a relay, that will take advantage of this groups spacious pace.

Together we will ask:

How can different time scales that comprise deep time (geologic, ancestral, glacial...) bring new depth to our photographic practices?

What happens to our photographs when we allow time for expansive attention?

Kinship uses a pay-what-you-can honor system with a minimum donation of $120 for a 12-session group. The average contribution for a 12-session practice group is $250. Please give as generously as you can. If you need to pay monthly or request a scholarship please email info@kinship.photography

Kaye Savage teaches Environmental Studies at Wofford College in Spartanburg, SC. Her artwork spans photography and mixed media/handmade paper, with place-based themes centered on terrain patterns, ecological relationships, and representations of scientific data. As a geologist and environmental artist, she enjoys thinking about the relationships among our more-than-human kin that may live or exist across different spans of time.
