Elementals: A Kinship Call-for-Engagement

Elementals: A Kinship Call for Engagement

Join us via Zoom Wednesday, March 26th at 7 pm ET

Join us this Wednesday for a fresh-out-of-the-box tour of our newest call for engagement Elementals. In this latest “Call,” Kinship invites photographers to explore their relationship with air, fire, water, and earth. Drawing on the Elementals book series from The Center for Humans & Nature, we will ask the following questions:

  • If the elements are kin to one another, then what does it mean to live in kinship with the elements (earth, air, water, fire)?

  • How can photography help us re-weave aspects of ourselves and our Earthly kin that have become separate? Can the idea of the elements be a framework for reconnecting?

  • With practice, can photography inspire new ways of seeing and responding that embrace elements of vulnerability, longing, and loss alongside the possibility of intimacy, communion, joy, and belonging? In kinship, can photography become a way of remembering the vital and tender beauty that connects us in elemental ways?

  • In what way do we experience the elements in our bodies? Whether through movement practices or relationships to particular places, how can we use photography to reveal that dynamism?

During our year-long conversation about the elements, we will explore these and other questions, always inviting deep reflection about our elemental humanness. During our practice groups, we will examine different aspects of our elemental lives. In Circle, we will invite ongoing sharing of our work and associated resources. During our weekly gatherings, we will continue what we started with Between Bodies, asking questions as we celebrate the beautiful web of relationships we inhabit.

We do hope you will join us for a year of creativity and community fueled by generosity and wonder. Please join us this Wednesday, we are eager to collaborate with you on shaping our new call.
