Making Kin: Belonging and Longing in Appalachia

Artists Reception & Artist Panel
Reception: March 22nd 4pm - 6pm, Panel: April 4th 5pm
Turchin Center for the Visual Arts
Boone, North Carolina

What does it mean to belong somewhere? In Making Kin: Belonging & Longing in Appalachia, we asked photographers to show us how Appalachia shapes their sense of kinship and belonging. From across the full range of Appalachia, the artists featured in this exhibition offer us moments of tenderness, resilience, and connection. Belonging is found by the rivers, in the woods, at the ancestral kitchen table, within the midst of wild-crafted families, and in the murky relationships between complicated bodies.

The Turchin Center for the Visual Arts will host a reception for the show on March 22nd from 4pm-6pm. Artists Susan Patrice, Frances Bukovsky, and Marcus Morris will participate in an artist panel on April 4th at 5pm at the Turchin Center.
