In Response to Places with Christine Carr

Join us via Zoom Wednesday, August 24th, at 7 pm ET

Where we are at any given time influences and alters our way of thinking and making—even the subtle and quieter aspects of a place matter. For Christine Carr, her work arises in response to place. Rooted in direct observation, she records and responds to place as it unfolds around her. Her unique process draws on feedback loops that take her practice deeper and deeper over time. Each place is a unique encounter, and each body of work lives as a testament to her ability to respond emotionally and intellectually to our rapidly changing world.

During this dynamic conversation, Carr will be sharing work from her diverse projects and insights on how both intuition and research can fuel curiosity.

Christine Carr grew up in Virginia and received her MFA from the Tyler School of Art, her BFA from the Corcoran College of Art and Design and her AAS from the Tidewater Community College Visual Arts Center. She uses digital and film photography to explore the human existence in and impact on the environment. Her work is rooted in issues of pollution and climate change with a focus on the ephemeral nature of airborne particles and the evocative nature of light. Carr is a recipient of the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts Fellowship and the Center for Excellence in the Arts and Humanities Grant at Iowa State University. She has exhibited in solo shows in Michigan, Virginia, Texas, California, Washington, DC, and in numerous group shows throughout the United States and internationally.
