For two decades, Bryant Austin documented the interplay between the sun, water, and the eye, which he calls the ‘window to the soul’, of whales and dolphins. Most recently, Bryant has been capturing the alignment of the sun and moon in Yosemite National Park where he reveals the sun’s surface in vivid detail as viewed through Earth’s varied atmospheric states. His dramatic landscape images challenge our perceptions of reality and invite us into a world where humans and nature are one.

Bryant’s stunning book sun, water, being was published by Datz Press and can be purchased here.

Bryant Austin is an American photographer known for his life-size portraits of whales. His collection of portraits of whales serves as a critical archive for future generations, given the tenuous future of its species. His subject matter is broad, extending from whales, trees, plants, and the sun, and connects the micro and macro worlds together. Bryant’s work has been shown and collected internationally including the solo exhibition ‘Light + Shadow’ (Cavallo Point, CA), several group shows at Datz Museum of Art (Seoul, South Korea), Peabody Essex Museum (Salem, MA), and Australian National Maritime Museum (Sydney, Australia).
