Between Bodies

Leah Mowers

In this ongoing series, I explore vulnerability, both mine and that of the natural world, by listening to and responding to the landscape rather than dominating it. I inhabit its form by molding my body into the terrain, emphasizing coexistence over control. This work invites viewers to reflect on their own relationship with the natural world.

Leah Mowers is a Canadian photo-based artist living in Wakefield, Quebec. Using genres of portraiture, landscape, and still life, she explores themes of cultural stereotypes, spirituality, and the complexities of our relationship with the natural world. Her multi-disciplinary practice includes image, video, and sound, which enables viewers to gain a deeper and more personal understanding of these themes. She has exhibited her work locally and internationally, including at The Ottawa Art Gallery, Ottawa City Hall, Contact Photo Festival, Shenkman Arts Center, and the Mediterranean House of Photography in Barcelona. In 2022, The Ottawa Arts Council awarded her a Visual Artists Creation Grant.
